We at The Tribune-Democrat newspaper are very excited about our new book project - "Slap Shots and Snapshots: 50 Seasons of Pro Hockey in Johnstown, Pennsylvania."
This book, due out by late October, will be a complete history of professional hockey here in Johnstown, from the Blue Birds in the '40s through the great years with the Jets and on to the ECHL Chiefs now. The book also will contain a section celebrating the classic hockey movie "Slap Shot," filmed in Johnstown.
A dedicated group of local hockey history buffs has been gathering and cross-checking information, while award-winning hockey writer Mike Mastovich has been compiling a fantastic collection of new profile and retrospective stories and reprints from the newspaper's coverage of hockey down through the years.
